    Assistant Professor de Contabilidad y Control

    Professor Miguel Duro received a PhD and a M. Phil. in Business (Accounting) from Columbia Business School, an Executive MBA from IESE Business School, and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Seville. <BR> <BR>He is a Certified International Investor Analyst (CIIA®) with 10 years of experience. He worked in senior management positions for Sybari Software (Microsoft), Pepsi Bottling Group, and Metrovacesa, one of the biggest listed European real estate companies. <BR> <BR>His research focuses on the impact of corporate governance, corporate disclosure and public enforcement in capital markets, earnings management and other accounting attributes. Professor Duro has coauthored several papers at different stages of review at top-tier finance and accounting journals (one of them in second round at <i>Journal of Accounting and Economics</i>). His dissertation on the role of institutional investors in enforcement has received several awards, such as the Nasdaq Educational Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship and the Jerome A. Chazen Institute Doctoral Research Grant.

    Associate Professor de Contabilidad y Control

    Professor Gaizka Ormazabal received a PhD in Business from Stanford University, a PhD in Construction Engineering from Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Ingeniería de Caminos, Canals y Puertos) from Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya.

    Professor Ormazabal's research focuses on executive compensation and corporate governance. His work examines the choice and valuation implications of corporate governance mechanisms. His current research projects analyze managerial risk-taking incentives, corporate risk oversight, financial regulation, asset securitization, and the role of corporate governance intermediaries.

    His research appears in leading academic journals including Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Law and Economicas, and The Accounting Review. His research has been featured in the popular media, including such outlets as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and The Economist, and has been cited in final rulings by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  He is a Research Affiliate in the Financial Economics program of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and research member in the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). He holds the Grupo Santander Chair of Financial Institutions and Corporate Governance and serves as academic director at the IESE Center for Corporate Governance.

    Professor of Economics

    Javier Díaz-Giménez is a professor in the Department of Economics at IESE.

    Prof. Díaz-Giménez has dedicated most of his professional life to doing research and teaching macroeconomics. His recent work explores the macroeconomic consequences of fiscal policy and pension system reforms. He has published the results of his research in some of the leading professional journals, including the Journal of Political Economy and the Journal of Monetary Economics. He is also the author of the undergraduate textbook Macroeconomía: Primeros Conceptos (Macroeconomics: Primary Concepts).

    Prof. Díaz-Giménez has consulted for the Spanish Ministry of Industry and, briefly, for the Economic Bureau of the President of Spain.

    Senior Lecturer de Dirección Financiera

    MBA from IESE Business School and Bachelor of Law from the University of Barcelona. <BR> <BR>He is an authority on issues related to the supervision of banks (Basel Accords) and insurance companies (Solvency Standards), credit assessment policies for businesses, and the regulatory and compliance activities of financial institutions in general, including the shadow banking industry.<BR> <BR>He has extensive experience in financial matters and the management of financial institutions in particular. For 20 years he was CEO of Banco de Europa, a specialized credit bank belonging to "la Caixa." In 2006 he became the first director of compliance at "la Caixa." Among other positions, he has served as president of Telefónica Factoring Spain and has been a member of the Board of Directors for Telefónica Factoring Brasil and Telefónica Factoring México. <BR> <BR>He has served on the Board of several trade associations, including the Asociación Española de Leasing and the Asociación Española de Factoring, in addition to acting as president of Leaseurope. <BR> <BR>He is a Board member for several subsidiaries of "Caixabank." Member of Advisory Council of Reisebank A.G (subsidiary of the mutual banking group DZ BANK A.G). He also participates in several business groups.<BR> <BR>His recent publications include: Basilea II: una nueva forma de relación banca-empresa, 2007 (second edition) and El sistema financiero y su encuentro con la empresa, 2001. He is also the author of many articles in the specialized press. Relevant examples include a February 2006 article published in the magazine Harvard Deusto Finanzas y Contabilidad titled "La financiación especializada en la empresa. Tipos de productos y generalidades" and "Las oficinas bancarias y el proceso de reestructuración en marcha," A.T. Kearny and IESE, 2013.

    Emeritus Professor de Economía

    Prof. Toribio received a B.Sc. in economics from the Universitat de Barcelona. He also received an ITP from the Harvard Business School, as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. <BR> <BR>Professor Toribio has led a long, successful career in the public and private sectors, as well as in academia. <BR> <BR>In the public sector, professor Toribio started his career as economist for the Banco de España (Spanish Central Bank). Following this, he became a senior official, first in the Spanish Government as the general manager of financial policy in the Spanish Ministry of Finance and, later on, as executive director of the International Monetary Fund, based in Washington. <BR> <BR>In the private sector, Prof. Toribio has served as chairman for several financial and investment companies such as Caixabank Monaco and Inverban, S.V.B., as well as on a number of boards of companies such as La Caixa, Nestlé, Abertis Telecom, Invercaixa (now La Caixa Corporate Finance) or Xfera (now Yoigo). Prior to that, Prof. Toribio held the position of research director at several banks including Banco Urquijo and Banco Hispano Americano.<BR> <BR>He has also served on a number of institutions and non-profit boards, including as chairman of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts (Instituto Español de Analistas Financieros), chairman of AIAF (Spanish Fixed Income Market), vice chairman of MEFF (Spanish Derivatives Market), chairman of CODESPA, and board member of the European Federation of Financial Analysts, the Barcelona Stock Exchange and the Círculo de Economía in Barcelona. <BR> <BR>Currently, Prof. Toribio serves on a number of boards such as Amper, the ITM Club, the Abertis Advisory Board and is invited, on a weekly basis, to participate in the CNN+ program "Economía a Fondo" (The Economy, in-depth). <BR> <BR>Prof. Toribio's research and teaching activities focus on business economics, monetary theory, international economics, the economics of the European Union and financial institutions. Prof. Toribio has published numerous academic and practitioner-oriented articles and case studies on these issues. <BR> <BR>Prof. Toribio has written numerous books, such as <i>Globalización, Desarrollo y Pobreza</i> (Globalization, Development and Poverty), 2003, Círculo de Empresarios, and <i>El Sistema Financiero Español: Su funcionamiento y reforma</i> (The Spanish Financial System: Its Functioning and Reforms), 1986, Orbis. <BR>
