For the past 50 years, the process of urbanization in our world has been staggering and may well continue, creating a serious challenge for mobility. At the same time, our demands and behaviors are changing, a trend that has accelerated with the pandemic. Governance clearly plays a central role in responding to these challenges, but what else is needed to ensure that mobility frameworks are reliable, affordable, efficient, sustainable and secure?

In this session, our expert panel will discuss how advanced technology, changing mindsets, innovative business models, and new ecosystems have emerged from this context and explore what mobility in cities may look like in the future.

  • Pascual Berrone is professor of strategic management and holder of the Schneider Electric Chair of Sustainability and Business Strategy at IESE Business School. Also, Prof. Berrone is the academic director of the Executive MBA in Madrid. He is also vice-president of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management. Prof. Berrone earned a B.Sc. in business administration from the Universidad Católica de Córdoba, holds a senior degree in management and international business from the FUNCER Business School, and completed his Ph.D. in business administration and quantitative methods degree at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He is also an alumnus from IESE where he completed a PDG program. Before joining IESE Business School, Prof. Berrone held two visiting scholar appointments at Arizona State University and he was a visiting professor at Concordia University in Montreal, and Simon Fraser in Vancouver, Canada. More recently, he was a visiting professor at the Nangyang Business School in Singapore.

    Prof. Berrone has extensive managerial experience from across Latin America, Europe, and the United States. His professional interests include ongoing programmatic work in three areas: corporate governance, social issues in management and family firms. Prof. Berrone's academic work has been published in international journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, California Management Review, Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice, Human Resource Management, Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Management Studies (all these journals included in the FT45 list), Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Small Business Management, Family Business Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, and Management Research as well as in prestigious Spanish outlets such as Revista de Economía Financiera.

    Prof. Berrone has been recognized on several occasions for his outstanding research. In 2015, Prof. Pascual Berrone received the IBM Faculty Award, which recognizes Berrone?s work in researching and teaching strategies for cities and urban development. In 2009, he won the ?Best Doctoral Dissertation Award? granted by the Academy of Management. The award was sponsored by the Beard Center for Leadership in Ethics at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. Also in 2009, he won the ?Best Paper Award? in the Corporate Governance Track at the EURAM conference. The award is sponsored by the Center for Family and Enterprise and Ownership (CeFEO). In 2008, he won the Academy of Management ONE Division Best Paper Proceedings Award. More recently, his article The Impact of Symbolic and Substantive Actions on Environmental Legitimacy was named among the top three finalists for the Best Paper Award at the Iberoamerican Academy of Management Conference (2010). His work on environmental innovation was also the finalist for the best paper award at the UAM-Accenture Award (2011). More recently, he has received the Best Scientific Contribution Award granted by the Public University of Navarre for work carried out in 2009 and 2010 in the area of Human and Social, Legal and Economic Sciences. This recognition has been recently extended to his teaching activities as he received the Honorable Mention in the 4th. annual Dr. Alfred N. and Lynn Manos Page Prize for Sustainability Issues in Business Curricula (2012).

    Prof. Berrone is Associate Editor of research outlet Organization & Environment and is a member of several editorial boards. He is the founder of the Strategic Madrid Group, an initiative that gathers world-class scholars and practitioners who are interested in strategic issues. He is also the academic co-director of the research platform IESE Cities in Motion.

  • Lucas Casasnovas (Barcelona, 1971) is the Head of Urban Mobility at SEAT, an area which encompasses all of the company's projects related with new urban mobility, including XMOBA and Respiro.

    After leaving Roland Berger consulting, Lucas joined the Marketing and Operations team at Volkswagen in Spain. He moved to Germany in 2010 when he became the Global Launch Director of Volkswagen AG until his 2015 appointment as Product Marketing Europe Director of the compact segment worldwide. In August 2016 until October 2019, Lucas was SEAT's global Product Marketing Director, during which time he contributed to redefining the company's product portfolio to adapt it to new trends in mobility and micromobility.

  • Daniel Serra has been involved in establishing EIT Urban Mobility since 2019. In January 2020, he was appointed Innovation Hub Director for the Innovation Hub South. Daniel has several years of experience in urban mobility.

    From 2015 to 2018, he was the Executive Project Manager at CARNET (Future Mobility Research Hub), where he worked in the development of initial activities, setting up processes and research activities, and leading projects such as the Virtual Mobility Lab (the first macroscopic model of the Barcelona metropolitan region) and the creation of Mobility as a Service Catalonia (MaaS Catalonia). From 2003 to 2015, he worked in the automotive industry for leading OEMs (Ford, Volvo, Land Rover, SEAT, VW, Daimler).

  • Joan Enric Ricart, Fellow de la SMS y de EURAM es Profesor del Dirección Estratégica y dirige la Cátedra Carl Schroeder en el IESE Business School. En 1993 fue nombrado Director del Departamento de dirección Estratégica hasta julio de 2016. Asimismo fue Director del Programa Doctoral (1995-2006); Decano Asociado de Investigación (2001-2006).

    Fue el Presidente Fundador de la Academia de Dirección Europea (EURAM), Presidente de la Strategic Management Society y Vicepresidente de la Academia de Dirección Iberoamericana; Director del Centro de Globalización y Estrategia, Co-director académico del IESE Cities in Motion y Director Académico del UN Center of excellence of PPP for Cities. También es miembro del Advisory Board of the Future of urban Development and Service Initiative of the World Economic Fórum.

    El Profesor Ricart tiene una amplia y reconocida experiencia internacional como docente. Ha dirigido numerosas tesis doctorales y proyectos de investigación. Ha publicado numerosos libros, capítulos de libros, con Edward Eldgar, J. Wiley and Sons, McGraw-Hill, NCC-Blackwell, Estudios y Ediciones IESE, y también artículos y documentos académicos en journals nacionales e internacionales, entre otros, Econometrica, European Economic Review, Interfaces, Journal of Finance, Journal of Information Systems, Knowledge Process Management, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Strategic Management Journal, Corporate Governance, Harvard Deusto Business Review, Papeles de Economía, Revista Española de Economía, además de un importante número de material para la docencia (casos, notas técnicas y documentos de investigación). Su trabajo actual se centra en ciudades, modelos de negocio, diseño organizacional, el rol de la dirección general, y decisiones de offshoring de actividades de servicio.

    Sus trabajos de consultoría en numerosas empresas se han centrado fundamentalmente en la dirección de procesos de elaboración de la estrategia, en el cambio organizativo necesario para adaptarse a los nuevos lineamientos estratégicos, y en las estructuras de gobierno acordes, sobre todo en los casos de empresas familiares.
