    Professor of Economics

    Professor of Economics at the IESE Business School.

    He holds a PhD in Economics (1987) from the University of California at Berkeley and he is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London.

    Jordi Gual is Chairman of the Board of Directors of VidaCaixa since April 2021. He is also Vice President of Círculo de Economía, he serves on the board of CEDE Foundation and he has recently become a SUERF Fellow and member of the Advisory Board of Instituto Español de Analistas Financieros.

    Between 2016 and 2021, he served as Chairman of CaixaBank. Prior to this appointment, he was Chief Economist and Head of Strategic Planning and Research for CaixaBank and Director-General of Planning and Strategic Development for CriteriaCaixa. Jordi Gual joined the ?la Caixa? Group in 2005. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Telefónica, Erste Group Bank and Repsol. He also was Chairman of FEDEA and he served as an economics advisor for the European Commission?s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs in Brussels and as a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics.

    His work on banking, European integration, regulation and competition policy has been widely published.

    In 1999 he was awarded the Research Prize from the European Investment Bank and in 1979 the Extraordinary Award for his degree in Economics and Business. He has also been a Fulbright Scholar.

    Professor and Head of Economics Department

    Núria Mas is professor and head of the Economics Department at IESE Business School and holder of the Jaime Grego Chair of Healthcare Management. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University and a B.A. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Before joining IESE Business School, Prof. Mas worked as an associate at Lehman Brothers International. Núria Mas is member of the Governing Council of the Bank of Spain.

    Prof. Mas teaches economics and health economics in the MBA, Executive-MBA and other executive education programs. She is the Academic Director of IESE's Annual Healthcare Industry Meeting.

    She was member of the Advisory Committee for the Sustainability and Progress of the Healthcare System of the Government of Catalonia.

    Her fields of research interests focus on health economics, with a special interest on the organization of healthcare systems to achieve the Triple Aim of better health for their population, better care for the patients and rationalization of costs. She has  studied the effects of different health care systems on the health of the population and she also analyzes how hospitals and doctors respond to different incentive mechanisms. She has also worked on evaluation of public policies. Her work has been published in numerous international journals such as the Journal of Health Economics, The Review of Industrial Organization; Food Policy  or the International Journal of Healthcare Finance and Economics.

    Prof. Mas has been an advisor and consultant on health economics for the European Commission as well as for different public sector institutions and the healthcare industry.
